Computer Mouse Technologies

There are many types of computer mouse in the market. The most familiar and common are the mechanical mouse, optical mouse, and laser mouse.

  • The mechanical mouse is the first computer mouse that came in the market. It's still being used despite the different computer mice available. As you move the mechanical computer mouse on a flat surface, the roller ball located on the underside prompts the rollers inside the mouse to translate the motion to the pointer on screen. A mechanical mouse requires occasional cleaning.
  • With optical computer mouse, the roller ball was replaced with a beam of light and optical sensor. It's more efficient than the mechanical computer mouse. Maintenance is significantly reduced, and there's no longer a need for a mouse pad.
  • The laser computer mouse uses the latest technology in tracking. Its attributes are similar to the optical computer mouse only that it uses a narrow beam of laser light.
